BREAKING: Hilda Baci Breaks World Record for Longest Cooking Marathon
Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, according to Guinness World Records.
The 26-year-old Nigerian chef cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes, beating the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by Indian chef Lata Tondon in 2019.
Hilda Baci started her cook-a-thon on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at a venue in Lekki, Lagos. She was sponsored by a non-governmental organization called The Women International.
She cooked over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint, ranging from local to continental dishes. She also cooked jollof rice, a popular spicy rice dish that is a source of pride and rivalry among West African countries.
She completed her cook-a-thon on Monday, May 15, 2023, amid cheers and applause from her supporters and well-wishers. She shared her joy and gratitude on her official Instagram page, where she wrote: “We did it! Thank you Jesus! Thank you everyone for your love and support!”
Hilda Baci’s record-breaking feat was monitored by CCTV cameras and witnessed by officials from the Guinness World Records. The evidence was reviewed and verified before the record was confirmed on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
Hilda Baci is a renowned chef, restaurateur and actress who was born on September 20, 1996 in Akwa Ibom State. She graduated with a degree in sociology from Madonna University.
She was the host of a TV show called Dine on a Budget and also starred in some movies such as Dreamchaser and A Walk on Water.
Hilda Baci is no stranger to the heat of competitive cooking events. In 2021, she won the Jollof Faceoff competition, defeating other contestants from Nigeria and Ghana to claim the crown for the best version of jollof rice. She said her passion for cooking was inspired by her mother’s culinary techniques and that her recipes were homemade.
Hilda Baci has received commendations and congratulations from many Nigerians, including celebrities and public figures. She received a call from Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and a visit from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu She also got support from her fans and followers on social media.
Hilda Baci has expressed her hope that her record will inspire other young Nigerians to pursue their dreams and talents.
