BREAKING: Court Stops Obaseki from participating in PDP Governorship primary
In a suit filed by Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama granted interim injunction restraining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from allowing the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to participate the party governorship primary reschedule to June 25, pending the hearing and the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
The Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday has stopped the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from Participating in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary slated for Thursday, June 25.
Obaseki, who joined the PDP last week Friday over disqualified by his former party, All Progressives Congress, APC, from seeking re-election allegedly for submitting questionable certificates.
The Peoples Democratic Party also granted the Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, a waiver to contest the party’s governorship primary in the state.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, who visited the national secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday, picked his expression of interest and nomination forms at the party’s national office ahead of the September 19 governorship election.
But in a suit filed by Omoregie Ogbeide Ihama, one of the governorship aspirants and the lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency, granted interim injunction restraining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from allowing the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to participate the party governorship primary reschedule to June 25, pending the hearing and the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
According to the ruling seen by Newsflash247 Nigeria, the court on Monday granted an order restraining the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Emmanuel Ogidi and four others from allowing Obaseki or any member of the party that have purchased forms and were not screened within the time stipulated in the timetable to contest the PDP’s primary.
The case adjourned for motion on hearing to 24th June.
Meanwhile, the party had named Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde and three members as an electoral committee to conduct the June 25 Edo State Governorship primary.
Governor Bala Mohammed, is to serve as Chairman, while lawmaker representing Mangu/Bukkos Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the
House of Representatives, Solomon Bulus Maren, was named as the Secretary.
Other members are Governors Seyi Makinde and Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Oyo and Zamfara states respectively, and Senator Lilian Ekwunife.
The PDP National Organising Secretary, Austin Akobundu, made this known in a press statement on Monday.

It read, “The National Working Committee of our great party has approved the nomination of the following party members and leaders to serve on the gubernatorial primary electoral committee.
“The committee is mandated to conduct the primary election that will elect our Party’s flagbearer in Edo State, for the upcoming 2020 Governorship election in the state.
“The exercise is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2020, in Benin City, Edo State.”
