BREAKING: Court Grants DSS Permission To Detain Sowore For 45 Days

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Department of State Service (DSS) permission to detain the convener of Revolution Now protest,

Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days pending the conclusion of investigations.

Granting an exparte order, Justice Taiwo Taiwo held that according to section 27 subsection 1 of the terrorism prevention Act , the word ”May” used in the section is directory and it’s not absolute, it affords the court the discretion to make a decision.

The court further held that after the expiration of the 45 days the applicants are at liberty to apply for an extension which is at the discretion of the court.

The Secret Police had approached the court seeking to detain the former Presidential Candidate of the Action Alliance Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, for 90 days in order to carry out a thorough investigation over alleged treasonable felony.

The Sahara Reporters Published was arrested and detained by the DSS Operatives following his call for Revolution against the sitting democratically elected government.

Sowore had in many interviews urged Nigerians to brace up for revolution that will put an end to many of the happenings in the country. This, the DSS termed treasonable offence according to the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Although the protest kicked in some parts of the country, it was not successful as the Police and officers of the Nigerian Army swooped on the protesters, leading to the arrest and trial of some of them.
