BREAKING: Buhari orders Malami, Amaechi, others contesting to resign

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami; Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaech and others contesting for political positions to resign.

The president directed them to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohamed disclosed this on Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council meeting.

He said that the directive excludes the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo because he is an elected member of the cabinet.

Mohammed affirmed that if there are any amendments or additions to this directive they would be made shortly.

He said the directive might involve political appointees if the need arises.

Asked if the directive would be extended to other Federal appointees outside the cabinet like the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who may join the presidential race, Mohammed said only Ministers are asked to resign as of now.

“As of this moment, the mandate I have is for members of the Federal Executive Council. Subsequently, it might affect other political appointees but that will be made known. If there is going to be any amendment or any inclusion, you will be informed in due course,” he stressed.
