BREAKING: Bayelsa Speaker, Bobou Obolo, resigns
The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Monday Bubou-Obolo, on Wednesday, February 19 has resigned to pave the way for the emergence of a new Speaker.
The Speaker stepped down following the inauguration of Governor Douye Diri, who is from the same Bayelsa Central Senatorial District as Bubou-Obolo.
Members, therefore, elected the Deputy Speaker, Abraham Ngobere, as the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Recall that, Senator Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on February 14, had been sworn in as the new Bayelsa State governor.
Diri, now, 5th democratically elected Governor sworn in after the Supreme Court nullified the election of David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment declared Diri winner of the poll and issued him with Certificate of Return.
This paves way for the swearing in of the Diri and his deputy at the Bayelsa Government House on Friday.
