Bayelsa Party Member Murdered by Thugs at Collation Centre
A tragic incident occurred at the collation centre in Twon-Brass, Brass local government area of Bayelsa state, where a party member was killed by thugs who invaded the centre.
The victim, Mr. George Sibo, was an aide to the Brass Local Government Chairman, Hanson Alabo-Karika, and a member of one of the leading parties in the state.
According to Daily Trust, Sibo, who was popularly known as “Kobo-Kobo”, was attacked on Saturday when results for some wards in the constituency were being submitted.
He was an indigene of Twon-Brass, and a married father of children. Eyewitnesses said he was brutally murdered by the thugs who were desperate to disrupt the electoral process.
The lawmaker representing Brass Constituency l, Dr. Daniel Charles, condemned the killing and described it as a “gruesome murder of a vibrant and hardworking young man by desperate power seekers”.
He called on the security agents to arrest and prosecute the culprits without delay.
The spokesman for the Police in Bayelsa state, CSP Asinim Butswat, said he was waiting for details from the Police Area Commander of Brass. He assured that the police would ensure the safety of the electoral officials and materials.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier raised an alarm that its officials were held hostage in Brass by some armed men.
The commission said it was working with the security agencies to resolve the situation and ensure the completion of the collation.
