The heart-wrenching ordeal lasted seven agonizing days for the abducted children and teachers. Tragically, the driver lost his life in the process, a somber reminder of the brutality they faced. The harrowing release occurred in the early hours of Sunday, around 3:00 am.
Initially, the abductors had demanded a staggering N100 million for the safe return of their captives. However, a compromise was reached, and the families scraped together N16 million to secure the release. The children and their educators, wearied by their traumatic experience, were captured in a poignant video, sitting on the floor as a concerned mother lamented the condition of her child in the background.
The incident unfolded when school children and teachers were kidnapped on a fateful Monday evening along the treacherous Emure – Eporo Road. The assailants, after firing shots at the bus, kidnapped nine individuals, comprising five students, three female teachers, and the ill-fated driver.
Confirmation of the hostages’ release came from a government official in Emure Ekiti, who assured that details would be provided shortly.
