Amotekun Corps Nabs Five Suspects for Theft and Burglary in Ekiti State
The Ekiti State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on Monday paraded five suspects for theft and attempted burglary in different locations in the state.
The Corps Commander, Brigadier Gen. Joe Komolafe, told journalists in Ado-Ekiti that the command responded to distress calls from the victims at Tinuola Estate and Oke-Mesi, where they apprehended the suspects.
He said three of the suspects, Bahari Ibrahim, 18, Yahaya Mumuni, 20, and Rufai Isiaka, 20, tried to break into the house of one Mrs Osho, a widow who had previously reported the loss of a pumping machine and other items to the command.
He added that the other two suspects, Oladosu Eniola, 52, and Fatokun Michael, 62, had already burgled the water corporation in Oke-Mesi and stolen items such as armoured cables and other equipment.
He said: “Five suspects were arrested this morning. Three for house-breaking attempt and two for breaking into water corporation properties in Oke -Mesi.
“Those two stole things like armoured cables and other items of the corporation.
“For the other three suspects, we received a distress call from Tinuola Estate this morning, we went there and were able to arrest them.
“They also went to one Mrs Osho, a widow, to break into her house, after she had already lodged a complaint to our table of persistent theft, which involved a pumping machine and some other items.”
However, one of the suspects, Oladosu Eniola, denied stealing from the water corporation, claiming that he was there for a mining business. He said he saw some steel in the water corporation premises and took it with the permission of Fatokun Michael, who claimed to be the controller of the area.
He said he returned the steel when he was confronted by the son of the deceased security guard of the corporation. He said he was arrested when he went back to Oke-Mesi with a saw blade and spinner on the instruction of Fatokun Michael.
The corps commander urged the public to be vigilant and security conscious and report any suspicious activities in their vicinity. He assured them that the Amotekun Corps would continue to protect their lives and properties.
He also commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for increasing their minimum wage from N20,000 to N30,000.
