Air Peace Passenger Caught Stealing N1m from Fellow Passenger’s Bag
A passenger on an Air Peace flight was caught red-handed stealing N1 million from another passenger’s bag on Tuesday.
The suspect, who has not been named, reportedly took the money from a brown envelope that was in the victim’s computer bag. He then put the computer bag in another luggage compartment and moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft.
The airline’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, confirmed the incident in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday.
According to Olisa, the theft occurred onboard Abuja-Port Harcourt flight P47192 on July 27.
He said the suspect stole the money, which was in a brown envelope, from a computer bag that belonged to another passenger. He then hid the computer bag in another luggage compartment and moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft.
Olisa said the suspect was one of the first few to disembark from the plane, despite the announcement of a proper disembarkation sequence by the crew. He said the owner of the money noticed his bag was missing and alerted the crew, who quickly searched for it and found it in another compartment.
He said the crew also found the suspect with the brown envelope containing the money, as well as other currencies in different denominations. He said the suspect was handed over to the security operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for further investigation by the police.
Olisa said the police later informed them that they had released the suspect on bail. He said the airline was cooperating with the authorities to ensure that justice was served.
He said Air Peace was committed to ensuring the safety and security of its passengers and their belongings at all times. He advised passengers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the crew or security personnel. He also thanked the crew and passengers for their cooperation and alertness in foiling the theft attempt.
This incident is a reminder that passengers should be careful with their belongings when traveling by air. It is also important to be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the airline staff.
