Again, gunmen on the rampage in Ekiti, kidnap traditional Chief

A few days to Christmas, unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a traditional Chief identified as Emmanuel Ojo Obafemi in Ijan-Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday evening around 5:40 pm.

Newsflash Nigeria gathered that the armed bandits numbering about 10 invaded the farm of Chief Obafemi, opposite Ayo Daramola Secondary School, in the community a few kilometres away from Ado-Ekiti, the State capital.

The victim was working on his farm when the gunmen stormed his farmland and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

This incident occurred three days after kidnappers abducted a woman with her 4-year-old girl and a primary school teacher in Ayebode Ekiti-Ilasa road in the Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State, demanding N50 million ransom to secure their release.

According to the wife of the victim, Mrs Obafemi said her husband was kidnapped on his farm around 5:42 pm on Thursday.

“They did not come with vehicle or motorcycle, but they shot sporadically into the air before whisking him away” the victim’s wife recounts.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Sunday Abutu, said he had not been briefed of the incident, stressing that he would brief newsmen once he gets full details of the matter.

But the Commandant of Amotekun Security Corps in the State, Brig. Gen. Joseph Komolafe(rtd.) told our correspondent that his men have been deployed to the area to ensure the man is released unhurt.

Kidnap for ransom and other banditry activities have become the order of the day in some parts of the State in recent times.
