Abuja plane crash: Fayemi visits Olawunmi’s wife in Ekiti

Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, on Tuesday, has visited Mrs Omolola Olawunmi, the wife of Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi who died in the Air Force plane crash on Sunday.

Newsflash had reported that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beachcraft airplane crashed shortly after the perimeter fence of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Sunday, killing all seven persons in the plane.

Olawunmi, an Ekiti son was among the seven persons involved in the plane crash.

Late FS Olawunmi, an indigene of Ogotun Ekiti in Ekiti West local government of the Ekiti State.

Fayemi visited Mrs Olawunmi in Ogutun Ekiti to commiserate with her late husband.

Fayemi, who posted on his Twitter handle.

He said “Spent this morning with Mrs Omolola Olawunmi, wife of our son from Ogotun Ekiti, Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi who died in the Air Force plane crash on Sunday. May the soul of the dear departed rest in peace. JKF”

Meanwhile, the state government has mourned Flight Sergeant, Olasunkanmi Olawunmi (ATOS specialist), who died in a plane crash while returning to the Abuja Airport after a technical difficulty en-route Minna, Niger State on Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday by the Ekiti State government, expressed shock and grief over the death of a Flight Sergeant, Olasunkanmi Olawumi.

“The Government and people of Ekiti State mourn our son, Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi (ATOS specialist), who died in a plane crash while returning to the Abuja Airport after a technical difficulty enroute Minna, Niger State on Sunday.

“Late FS Olawunmi, an indigene of Ogotun Ekiti, was a competent, courageous, and worthy NAF personnel.

“He was a true Nigerian hero who won the respect and admiration of both his peers and his commanding officer throughout the war against insurgency.

“Our deepest condolences to the Olawunmi family, Ekiti State stands with you”.

The Senator representing Ekiti South at the National Assembly, Senator Biodun Olujimi also expressed shock and grief over the death of a Flight Sergeant, Olasunkanmi Olawumi and other six Nigerian Air Force personnel on board the crashed military aircraft.

Lamenting the tragedy, Senator Olujimi in a statement she personally signed and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, called for a thorough and painstaking investigation into the cause of the crash of the aircraft which was en route Minna, the Niger State capital.

She described the death of Olawumi from her constituency; Ogotun Ekiti, in Ekiti West local government as unfortunate and shocking.

“Olawumi had an aged father who loved and doted on him. The father is a great leader of repute.

“The late Air Force officer was a great guy and jolly good fellow who was so devoted to his chosen career. May God accept his soul and grant him eternal rest.”

The Senator commiserated with all the families and friends of the deceased, the Ekiti State Government and Nigeria, for the untimely demise of Olawumi and other gallant officers who died in active service.

“May his soul and those of his six other colleagues rest in peace. Eternal rest grant them, oh Lord.”
