Buhari Clone? Ex-Aide’s Hilarious Handshake Shatters ‘Jubril of Sudan’ Myth
Claims of a “Jubril of Sudan” replacing President Muhammadu Buhari during his medical leave in 2021 have finally met their comical demise. Femi Adesina, Buhari’s former media aide, debunks the outlandish rumors in his new book, “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser,” with a simple anecdote: a handshake and a compliment on his attire.
The internet buzzed with the “Jubril” conspiracy in August 2021 after Buhari’s return. But Adesina, attending a wedding in full Yoruba regalia, received a warm welcome back from the President himself. “Buhari shook hands with everyone,” he writes, “and when it got to my turn, he complimented me, saying, ‘Adesina, this is the best I have seen you dressed.’ We laughed at the joke.”
The seemingly innocuous exchange dismantles the core of the conspiracy. If, as the rumors claimed, Buhari was replaced by an impostor, how could he recognize his own aide and comment on his outfit? Adesina finds the whole notion “preposterous, even otiose,” dismissing it as the work of “pathetic people.”
Beyond debunking the clone myth, Adesina’s book paints a picture of a beloved leader deeply missed by the Nigerian people. The return journey from the airport, he recounts, was a testament to Buhari’s enduring popularity. “The crowd was so uncontrollable,” he writes, “they forced the convoy to a crawl. They were simply overjoyed to have their President back.”
This heartfelt description speaks volumes about the real Buhari, not some manufactured imposter. It’s a story not just of political power, but of genuine human connection, reminding us that sometimes, the simplest interactions can speak the loudest truths.
