Ogun LG fund saga: DSS reveals why it detained council chairman

The Department of State Services (DSS) in Ogun State has revealed why it detained Wale Adedayo, the suspended chairman of Ijebu East Local Government.

Adedayo, who accused the Ogun governor of diverting federal funds meant for the local governments in the state and petitioning anti-corruption agencies against Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that Adedayo had written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), asking them to probe Abiodun for allegedly mismanaging local government funds in the last two years. He also claimed that the governor had withheld the local government allocation.

However, Abiodun denied the allegation and the councilors suspended Adedayo for abuse of public office. The Association of Local Government Chairman (ALGON) in Ogun appealed to the governor to pardon Adedayo and release the funds.

The DSS then invited Adedayo to respond to a petition from the State Ministry of Justice, which alleged that he was planning to cause public disorder and violence in Ijebu East. A source in the DSS told Sunday Sun that Adedayo was questioned on the issues raised in the petition.

During the interrogation, Adedayo said he feared for his life because some unknown people had been trailing him in Ijebu East, possibly to assassinate him.

He said this was because of his letters to party leaders and anti-graft agencies against the government. The DSS then decided to keep him in safe custody until the situation in Ijebu East calmed down.
