VIDEO: How Seven Policemen Got in Trouble for Escorting a VIP Who Slaughtered a Cow

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has condemned the viral video showing seven policemen escorting a yet-to-be-identified man walking with a cow.

He said that the video was disgusting and that the police officers would be fished out and punished.

The video, which was shared by a Twitter user, Yemie Fash, on Wednesday, showed the man walking on a street with a cow while seven armed Mobile Police officers followed him.

The Twitter user tagged Adejobi and asked why the man had so many policemen escorting him.

Adejobi retweeted the video on Thursday morning on his Twitter account and said that the video was unacceptable and that the Force management would review the deployment of operatives to prominent individuals in the country.

He said that the deployment of policemen to individuals would be reviewed and regularised and that a committee had been set up to look into the process of withdrawing PMF/tactical men from such services and use them for the announced Quick Intervention Squad.

He said that the Quick Intervention Squad would be deployed to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to tackle criminality across the country. He said that Nigeria needed more men to police than guard individual Nigerians.

He said that he appreciated the understanding and patience of Nigerians as the police worked to improve its service delivery. He said that he could assure Nigerians of a better policing system in no distant time.

The viral video came after the Acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, vowed to withdraw Police Mobile Force personnel from VIP escort/guard duties on Monday, June 26. He said that this was part of his strategic action plans to reform the police and enhance its efficiency.

He also said that he had ordered police officers to stop escorting VIPs, politicians, and others to any of the southeastern states and Rivers State due to the security situation in those regions. He said that this was to ensure adequate deployment of personnel for security operations in those areas.

The issue of police escorting VIPs has been a controversial one in Nigeria, as many critics have argued that it is a waste of resources and manpower that could be better used for public security. They have also accused some VIPs of abusing and exploiting police officers attached to them for personal or political gains.

The police authorities have said that they are committed to reforming the police and ensuring equal access to security services for all Nigerians. They have also urged Nigerians to support and cooperate with them in implementing these policies.
