Reactions As Dino Melaye Meets Fubara, the New Rivers Governor Who Succeeded Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, had a meeting with the new Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over the weekend.

The meeting took place during the PDP retreat for elected officials in Bauchi State. Melaye shared a photo of him shaking hands with Fubara on his Instagram page.

He captioned the post: “With the new Governor of Rivers state”

Fubara was declared the winner of the Rivers State governorship election on March 20, 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He succeeded Nyesom Wike, who had served two terms as governor.

Fubara is a former accountant general of Rivers State and a close ally of Wike. He was born in Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State on January 28, 1975.

He is an accountant and a technocrat who holds a master’s degree from the University of Port Harcourt. He is also a knight of St. Christopher and a traditional chief of Opobo Kingdom.

The meeting between Melaye and Fubara generated mixed reactions from some Nigerians on social media.

Some accused Melaye of being loyal to everyone because of his governorship ambition. Others praised him for being friendly and supportive of his party members.
