2023: Four PDP governors working for Tinubu’s candidacy
Ahead of February 2023 presidential election, four governors belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are working for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
It was gathered that the four governors working for APC were from the Southern part of the country.
The source that spoke with Daily Post claimed that two governors from the South-East, one from the South-West, and one from the South-South are working for Tinubu’s candidacy.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the action of the governors is about personal interest.
He said while one of the governors is seeking re-election, others are seeking soft landing.
He said: “It’s now about personal interest. Four governors are working for Asiwaju.”
Recall that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his camp have expressed their grievances over the dominance of Northerners in the party leadership.
Newsflash Nigeria learnt that the PDP has in its constitution that the presidency would be rotated between the North and South.
This paved the way for the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 elections.
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who came second behind Atiku at the convention, had been having a running battle with the leadership of the party.
Wike, who was bitter, blamed his loss on religion, betrayal by the party leadership, especially, the national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, and the Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, whose sudden decision to stand down for Atiku, he claimed, allegedly tilted the presidential primary result against him.
The development has seen the Wike camp call for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
However, the camp of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has insisted that Ayu is not leaving office anytime soon.
The back and forth saw Governor Wike, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu meet with Tinubu in London.
Governor Wike’s camp and the former governor of Lagos State discussed the possibility of working together.
