2023 Abia Guber: APC chieftain canvasses for power shift to North senatorial district
By Chijindu Emeruwa
Mazi Emma Uche, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has advocated for a power shift to the Abia North senatorial district of the state ahead of the 2023 Governorship election in the state.
He noted that all senatorial zones of the state had occupied the position of the governor hence the need for all political actors to sustain the existing rotation of power as moulded by the Abia founding fathers by zoning the seat to Abia North bloc.
Uche who made the call during an interview with DAILY POST in Umuahia, on Tuesday, posited that despite there is no zoning in the Abia chapter of the All Progressive Congress, it will be in the best interest of the party to zone its gubernatorial seat to the Abia North senatorial district.
He said, “there is no zoning in our party in Abia but I will advise the party to allow Abia North to produce the next governor of Abia for the sake of justice, equity and fairness.
“There is an existing charter of equity mapped out by the founding fathers of Abia as regard to the seat of the governor, so, it will be just for a power shift to Abia North. If the party insists not to zone the gubernatorial position to Abia North, we will align as loyal party members”.
The former APC candidate for Arochukwu Local Government area urged political actors irrespective of political affiliations to respect the charter of equity mapped by the founding fathers of the state.
Uche frowned at the recent proclamation of some elders from a section of Abia state to retain the governorship seat and insisted that Abia North district must be allowed and supported to take the gubernatorial position so as to deepen the democracy in the state.
He advised the Abia leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to consolidate on the overwhelming acceptability by the citizens of the state and ensure every grey areas or issues are harmonized for the party to come out victorious in 2023 elections.
