Any APC godfather’s attempt to impose governorship candidate in Ekiti will fail – Aspirant
An All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Reuben Famuyibo, says that attempts by any godfather to impose governorship candidate on the party for the 2022 election in the state would fail.
Famuyibo advised Ekiti APC leaders to start respecting members’ voices in tandem with the sermon of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), that the party must be returned to the rightful owners at the grassroots, in order to continue to win elections.
The governorship hopeful, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Saturday while flagging off his campaign offices in the state capital and across the 16 local government areas, said it was to step up his moves to woo and win party members.
He said, “My coming out early is not to disparage leadership, but to popularise APC. That confidence has always been there. I won’t wait for any godfather for me to be governor, because I quite understand that our members would be the one to elect their candidate. We won’t allow any godfather to impose the party’s candidate.
“I have appointed two persons from each of the 2,195 units and six from each of the 177 wards for mobilisation. Politics is not about money, but about influence and trust and our members know monetised politics has failed them. They need a governor that will know them to their roots. 85 per cent of the people in APC know me and my records.

“I decided to open my campaign in all the local governments because I want to be close to all the members, that is the best way to interact with them and know their problems. I want to be in constant touch. APC should not be too far away from people,” he said.
Famuyibo, who said there was no basis for the power shift agitation of the people of South Senatorial District, said, “To me and many others who know politics and history, Ekiti South Agenda is a farce. The late Bamidele Olumilua had been governor of the Old Ondo State where Ekiti was carved out.”
He said it was Ado Ekiti agenda that could be genuine, saying, “Go and check the records, Ado Ekiti was instrumental to the creation of this state. Indigenes of this town played a prominent role in the creation of this state and with our massive votes, APC will win easily if it picks its candidate from Ado Ekiti”.
