Act swiftly on incessant kidnapping, killings across the country – Ex-Ekiti deputy governor, Eleka tells Buhari

The former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Professor Kolapo Olusola, popularly called Eleka has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to act swiftly on curbing the incessant kidnapping and killings across the country.

Eleka, the 2018 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate lamented the spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

He said the rampage of Fulani herdsmen and bandits in the South West and other zones without firm condemnation from major stakeholders in Nigeria is worrisome.

In a communiqué signed by the University Don, Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka said the confidence Nigerians had in President Buhari in 2015 had diminished drastically.

In his words, “One of the major factors that made Nigerian voted for the Buhari led-admimistration was his presumed experience as a former General”

He stated that security is embedded in the Exclusive List of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which implies that power to legislate on it is solely rested on the federal government.

“The federal government under the leadership of President Buhari can only make the federating units function by providing adequate security architecture in the country”

Laws can be effective only if the federal government is pro-active to its implementation.

The rampage of Fulani bandits in the South West and other zones without firm condemnation from major stakeholders in Nigeria is worrisome.

It should be noted that Southwest states are no longer secured. “Here in Ekiti state in broad day light, Alhaji Akinbami was kidnapped at his filling station; Commissioner, staffs of Ido/Osi Federal Medical Centre and others were kidnapped and ransoms  were paid to secure their release without bringing the bandits to books”

It is also unfortunate that Fulani bandits burnt down two Amotekun Vans and killed two volunteer corps in Ondo state yesterday.

In Ogun states, they were seen being escorted by soldiers to perpetrate evil.

This indicates unidentified link between the bandits and President Buhari’s led federal government.

He emphasized that should this incessant killings and kidnapping continue, Nigerians of different groups, clustery may be forced to consider options of self defense as evident in the jungle justice that’s springing up in states as witnessed in Edo, Oyo and some part of Ondo.

Calling on the newly appointed Service Chiefs to be more alive to their responsibilities to Nigerian project rather than selfish interest or interest of a particular ethnic group, he said they owe allegiance to the people and the territorial integrity of the country.

“The onus to protec lives and properties of Nigerians is rested on them”, he concluded.
