UNILORIN joins ASUU strike after 20 years academic stability
The University of Ilorin, Kwara State has finally joined the national headquarters of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, after a prolonged battle of over twenty years.
This is evident as the institution joined the ongoing warning strikes declared by the national leadership of ASUU.
ASUU national president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, on Monday announced that union will embark on two-week warning strike to call the attention of the Federal Government to the 2009 agreement it had with the union.
According to our source from the institution, the management and ASUU leadership led by Dr A. Abduraheem met today and decided on joining the strike.
Students and alumni of UNILORIN today received the news with great shock as the university last joined national Industrial action in 1999 during the tenure of Professor AbdulRahman Oba as the Vice Chancellor.
Successive Vice Chancellors include Prof A. Amali, Ishaq Oloyede and AbdulGaniy Ambali have sustained the legacy of zero tolerance to strike action.
