Ekiti LG Polls: APC adopts indirect primary election

The Ekiti State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has adopted indirect primary method to pick its candidates for the December 7, 2019 local government election in the state, Newsflash247 reports.
The Ekiti chapter said the party decision was reached and ratified by its State Executive Committee meeting after extensive deliberation.
he party has denied the allegation that it was imposing candidates for the elections, saying that every aspirant would be given opportunity to test their popularity.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed December 7 for the election into the 16 Local government areas.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, the party Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ade Ajayi said the party was ready for the poll, adding that it would fill candidates for the 177 wards and the chairmen for the 16 councils.
He said that all the party’s candidates would sign a code of conduct to be peaceful and orderly, and that any candidate whose supporters acted in disorderly manner would be disqualified.
“We are not ready to impose any candidate. However, in the constitution of our party, there is room for consensus candidate where necessary. Nobody will be deprived of his right to contest.
“We will make all our candidates to sign a code of conduct document that will guide them before, during and after the election. Any candidate who breaches, or whose supporters breach, this code will automatically be disqualified,” said he.
According to Ajayi, the eligibility of any candidate to contest the election will be in line with Sections 176, 177 and 182 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, adding that non-Ekiti indigenes who have lived in the state for several years can also vie for positions.
Newsflash247 gathered that the party primary election for Councillorship will hold on Saturday(today) September 21 across the 177 wards while the chairmanship will hold on Saturday, September 28 across the 16 local government of the state.
