Dapo Abiodun In Dilemma Over Political Appointments In Ogun
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State is currently in a dilemma over appointments into his cabinet, Newsflash247 has gathered.
Already, there is anxiety in the state as the governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not made any key appointment since he was sworn in on May 29.
Many had expected that Abiodun, like his counterparts in Lagos, Oyo, Imo, and other states where new governors were elected would make key appointments such as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (COS), Chief Press Secretary (CPS), amongst others, but the governor has remained silent eight days after swearing-in, fuelling speculations that all was not well.
According to a credible source in the party, the governor is at a crossroads as many of the influential people who assisted him during the election are bombarding him with lists of appointees, a situation that has left him in confusion.
“You really can’t blame the governor. He is in a very dicey situation right now. A lot of people assisted him in winning the election and now they are all sending him names of appointees. From Abuja, to Lagos, and Ogun, many of his benefactors are really breathing down his neck.
“As a chieftain of the party, I know the challenges the governor is facing. It is a very tough one for him because for every political position, there are five applicants whose names are sent by one benefactor or the other, and he doesn’t want to offend those who have been good to him.
“But I know with the situation on ground, he just needs to summon the courage and do the needful. The governor needs these appointees so that he can quickly settle down and confront the challenges ahead.”
Critics have said because of this failure to make appointments such as the Chief Press Secretary, some of the governor’s actions are already generating tension in the state and nobody has spoken on why he took the decisions.
Residents said they need the state government to clear the air on some of the policies taken by the government in the last eight days, such as the sacking of all the local government chairmen in the state, reversing some appointments made by ex-Governor Amosun such as the installation of Obas and appointment of permanent secretaries.
