Ekiti Election Tribunal Update: APC witnesses admit irregularities, 157 votes cast, 113 accredited

Proceedings at the Ekiti State Governorship Election Tribunal continued in Abuja on Friday, with more APC witnesses admitting irregularities in the election.

The witnesses admitted under cross-examination that accredited voters were different from numbers ticked in the voter’s register, the number of votes cast differently in units and ward collation results and irregular ballot paper accounting form entered.

Adekoya Andrew from Ward 12, Unit 9 in Oye Local Government equally lent credence to the malpractice perpetrated when he was confronted with his unit voters register where 157 votes were recorded but could only count 113 as accredited voters.

In his own evidence, Sunday Adelowo Omokan from Ward 11 Unit 3, Ijero Local Government, who had earlier averred that the election was free and fair, turned around during cross-examination by the Petitioners Counsel to admit that there were irregularities as numbers of ballot papers issued was 240 whereas, numbers of votes cast was recorded as 241.

Another witness, Oyewole Akinola Samuel from the Ipoti, Ijero Local government admitted during cross-examination that the number of ballot papers used was not written on the result sheet.

All the witnesses were asked if, in the circumstances, the election could be said to be free, fair and credible as written in their statement on oath, they said yes.

Curiously, APC Counsel had to put an end to the calling of other witnesses and urged the tribunal for an adjournment. The tribunal adjourned proceedings till next week Monday.
