7 dead, 4 injured in Kogi road crash
The accident is coming barely a week after 25 people lost their lives in a tanker accident in Felele Lokoja-Abuja road.
Eyewitness account revealed that the incident happened at about 4pm on Monday in a spot, popularly called saw mill.
A resident of the area, Mohammed Imgiyaaz told Newsflash247 that the deceased were returning from Lokoja Market where they had gone to buy food items.
According to him, “there is a popular driver called Egbunu known for transporting passengers along Okene-Lokoja road with different vehicle.
“Today, he sat alongside two other passengers in front, while the back seat was being occupied by four passengers.
“The remaining seat in the bus was loaded with food stuff. So, a truck coming behind them pushed the bus into the bush and it tumbled severally. All the seven passengers inside the bus died instantly.”
It was gathered that the truck driver took to his heel over fear of being attacked by villagers in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps Kogi State, Suleiman Mohammed said information available to the command showed that five people were confirmed dead, while four were injured.
Mohammed told Newsflash247 that the family of the deceased victims had been contacted for interment.
