30 Students Arrested As EFCC Storms LAUTECH

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, have arrested about 30 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly called ‘Yahoo Boys’ at the Ladoke Akintola Univerisity of Science and Technology(LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Twelve students of the suspects were arrested on Wednesday morning at about 5.45am at Oke- Afin Hostel.

They were arrested on following action on intelligence report indicating their involvement in internet fraud.

Source gathered that, LAUTECH, is the headquarter of cyber crime popularly called Yahoo Yahoo.

Source gathered that at about 6.32am Brown Bam Hostel was also busted leading to the arrest of about 23 students.

EFCC explained that the suspects used their phones and laptop computers to communicate with their victims who are majorly foreigners in order to defraud them of their monies.

The anti-graft agency also revealed that the suspects arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State received monies in several foreign currencies, deposited into their accounts by their victims.

Items recovered from them include, phones, cars and documents containing false information.

The EFCC stated that those arrested would soon be charged to court.
