2023: Three former PDP governors declare interest to contest for president
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the three former governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their interest to contest for the position of president.
The former governors disclosed their intention after Thursday’s 94th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
The three former governors are all from the North include; Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state, Ahmed Makarfi of Kaduna State and Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State.
Recall that the top names in the political scene express their interest to contest the 2023 presidential ticket.
There have been speculations that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, also a former governor, wants to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari when his tenure ends in 2023.
However, this has not stopped the possibility of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, trying his luck again in the 2023 general elections.
Others have also expressed interest to contest in the election which determines the face of the country on the international scene.
The tight race has seen politicians from the South clamour for the main political parties to field candidates from the region in the forthcoming election.

However, on Thursday, the Deputy National Chairman (North), ex-Senator Suleiman Nazif who are from the Northeast also declared intention to contest the 2023 presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, the party had ratified the decision of the zoning committee led by Enugu Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwaunyi, that the North produce the next National Chairman.
However, the presidential ticket was thrown open to allow any eligible member to compete.
Yemi Akinwonmi, Acting National Chairman, thanked Ugwaunyi and Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri for chairing the Zoning and Convention Planning Committees.
Wali Jibrin, Board of Trustees Chairman, assured that the party leadership will continue to promote unity among members to ensure the PDP returns to power.
