Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Southwest governors paid a visit to hopeful presidential ambition, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The governors stormed Bourdillon house, Ikoyi, Lagos, the residence of Tinubu on Tuesday evening but Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, was conspicuously missing despite being in Lagos.
Fayemi is also hopeful to contest the presidential election in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although both Tinubu and Fayemi are yet to officially declare their presidential ambition, they have begun to position themselves should the party zone their presidential ticket to the south.
Newsflash Nigeria gathered that Fayemi had earlier attended a meeting of the forum hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House, Marina.
Speaking to newsmen during Tinubu’s residence on Tuesday night, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu stated that the former Lagos State governor is capable of leading Nigeria.
While describing Tinubu as the leader of the Southwest, Akeredolu said the national leader of the APC is doing his best for the region.
According to Akeredolu, Southwest governors believe in the leadership of Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the governors were on a pilgrimage to Tinubu as the former Lagos governor’s house has turned to a Mecca.

Akeredolu said: “We held the Southwest Governors’ Forum meeting.
“After the meeting, we deemed it fit to come over and visit our leader who has returned home successfully and who is hale and hearty.
“We have come to show our love for him and thank God on his behalf.
“He has been receiving visitors here. This place has turned into Mecca. We are here as part of the pilgrims.
“The National Leader of APC remains one. Most of us in the Southwest believe in his leadership and it shows that he’s doing his best to lead us.
“He is not only the leader of the Southwest but also the National leader of the APC in Nigeria.
“But we in the Southwest first lay claim to him as our leader.”
Those South West governors present at Tinubu’s residence include: Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo) and Rauf Olaniyan (Oyo deputy governor).
