Obasanjo Says Mbang is the Only Nigerian Christian Leader He Knows That Will Make Heaven
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised the late Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Sunday Mbang, as the only Nigerian Christian leader that would make heaven.
He made this remark during Mbang’s funeral service in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he was the Special Guest of Honour .
Obasanjo said that Mbang was a man of integrity, courage and wisdom, who was not swayed by emotions or sentiments.
He recalled how Mbang gave him valuable advice when he was released from prison and pressured to run for president in 1999 .
Obasanjo said that Mbang was one of the important Nigerians he consulted before making his decision, and that he always sought his counsel on national and personal matters because of his forthrightness .
Obasanjo described Mbang as a friend, brother and mentor, who stood by him during his trials and tribulations. He said that Mbang’s legacy would live on in the hearts of many Nigerians who benefited from his spiritual and moral guidance .
Obasanjo also expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and the Methodist Church of Nigeria, praying that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss .
Mbang died on August 6, 2023, at the age of 86. He was the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria from 1992 to 2006. He was also the former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and a vocal advocate for democracy and human rights in Nigeria .
